Environmental Portraits

Over the last thirty years I have evolved the way I take portraits , leaving the studio , with its painted backdrops and formulaic  lighting, shooting in Black and White, and generally trying to tell stories with my images. No longer just “ this is what you look like” but more about the type of person you are and including the things that matter to you and your life at this point in time. So wether you are an 8 year old just starting to win motocross races, a 15 year old just finding your talents with the violin, or a 80 year old retired from work and enjoying tinkering in your workshop, these images tell a much better story about who you are. Maybe you love fishing or painting, and maybe your life is super full just dealing with the kids , each stage in our lives provide us with an opportunity to make images that matter, and that will become more and more important as the years tick by. When that 15 year oldd is playing to sell out audiences around the work, a picture of them as a kid with a violin will be priceless.

Everyone knows that Family portraits are important , and showing the interconnected relationships though family portraits is an age old tradition, but focusing on the individual is less well practiced. We do it for work, using headshots and life style images to convey a sense of our personality in the workplace, and now we would like to offer this style of portrait to everyone.

As a couple, do you go bush walking together or do you spend many happy afternoons in the beer garden listening to live music? there are so many aspects of your real, everyday life that would translate into a great portrait, one that would capture and remind you of the good times theatre part of your life at the moment.

To celebrate the opening of our Faces of Launceston 2024 Exhibition we’re offering these portraits at half price ($75 instead of $150) and you’ll also receive a 10x7” matted print of your choice
