End of financial year is a great time to revamp the office and to brighten the place up ready for another year of hard work and great profits!
Each year, our range of art prints grow, so that now you can choose from very local images such as the Gorge and local architecture, to stunning images of Tasmania , many of which are in the books that we publish. I also have a great collection of images from around the world so whether you want to fill your life with images from Paris, London or New York, or perhaps Monument Valley in Arizona, Florence in Italy or Koyoto in Japan, there is something for everyone.
At the moment , I am especially happy with some images I took on our last trip into the outback in February. Between the end of the Nullabour and the WA coast at Bumbury is Lake King. A large, mostly dry salt lake where the landscape is quite surreal. Especially when viewed from above.
Flying my drone above these salt lakes, especially where the dry salt and the water meets has given me so many beautiful abstract images to work with. Harsh midday sun and the view from directly above has blurred the lines between the dead trees at the edge of the water and their sharp shadows creating series of lines that makes reading the image difficult at first. It takes a minute to work out what you are looking at and that appeals to me!
There are so many different colours in a scene like this, but the harsh midday sun tends to wash them out a bit. Here is the image as it was taken straight out of the camera. The colours are there but they are subdued anda bit washed out. The next step for me is to take this image and using my digital image manipulation tools, to push the colours , contrast and cropping until I make an image that pleases me. This is no different to Picasso using yellows and greens to paint faces, at least I am leaving all the bits in their original places and not moving eyes and ears around!
My aim is to make an abstract piece of art that cause people to question what they are looking at, both in the subject matter and the process, what is the image off, and is it a painting, or a photograph or something else entirely.
I am just starting to look at these images to see how they would look in Black and White and while it doesn’t work with all of them, there are some that are looking very promising!
