Larceny Restaurant

Larceny at the Clarion City Park Grand Hotel has been operating as a bar and restaurant since the 1850’s. Previously named the Dorset Tavern, the City Park Grand Hotel started as a central location for workers of the wharf and railways to meet. The original owner of the property Jonathon Griffiths, aged 15 was convicted of Grand Larceny for removing a trunk from a car in 1790 and was transported to Australia to serve out his 7-year conviction, hence the restaurant name. Mr Griffiths trained as a boat builder and became a successful businessman as a coal and grain exporter in Launceston.

Larceny, in 2015 offers locals and tourists the best of regional produce served through a season orientated menu. The menu is complimented by an extensive Tasmanian wine list. The restaurant is open daily for breakfast and dinner. The menu highlights the impressive range of produce available in Tasmania.

The team in the kitchen aim to provide tasty and innovative options in dining. Dishes include locally sourced oysters, mussels, lamb, beef, quail and salmon.

The dessert options are also a must if dining at Larceny; Crème Brulee, Chocolate Pudding, and Cheese Cake just to mention a few. The ever-expanding list of house made ice creams reflects the chef's desire to find great flavour combinations, be it salted caramel, lemon & lime sherbet, or roasted strawberry & Cointreau.
