Gorge Restaurant

The Gorge Restaurant is nestled in the Victorian style gardens of Launceston’s spectacular Cataract Cliffgrounds. The building that now houses the Gorge Restaurant was first constructed in 1896 as tearooms. Prior to this, there was a large white refreshments tent on the site to cater to the visiting locals and picnickers.

In the early 1970s the Gorge Licenced Restaurant was born, boasting the first licenced alfresco dining area in Australia. Now days, they are regarded as an iconic Launceston restaurant for locals and visitors alike, offering the ambience of the roaring open wood fire in winter, and the amazing views over the beautiful gardens from the verandah on those warmer days.

The award winning wine list is something they are very proud of. Their wine list consists of some of the best wine Tasmania has to offer from small vineyards to the bigger well established ones. This is balanced with wines from mainland Australia and some international imports. They also have a very well stocked specialty wine collection.

The Gorge Restaurant has had a long history of serving fantastic food and wine in an idyllic location.

“We are extremely proud of what we do and enjoy hosting the people we meet.”
