Vanidol's South Hobart

Vanidols first started in North Hobart in 1991, making this their 25th year of operation. The original Vanidols was sold in 2012, and since then owner and chef Vanidol Lulitanond has opened the current restaurant on Macquarie Street called Vanidols South Hobart.

One of the first Asian restaurants to offer Thai, Indian and Indonesian foods in Hobart, Vanidol mixed family recipes from his hometown of Bangkok with the experience he gained from spending 6 years in Darjeeling in India and his time working in an Indonesian restaurant while studying at university to produce food that is quite unique.

In the early days, getting fresh asian ingredients was difficult in Hobart but Van’s dedication to producing authentic tasting dishes has resulted in a clientele that have remained loyal through the years.

Van believes in using good ingredients, locally sourced and fresh, to produce food that is brimming with spice and flavour, the menu reflects the seasons and takes advantage of the freshest produce when it is at its peak. Over the years, Vanidols has developed a very strong following of regulars and is one of the oldest operating restaurants with the same owner in Hobart.

Vanidol and his wife Sumitra take a trip once a year back to Thailand on a culinary journey to bring back to the people of Hobart new and exciting dishes.
