Urban Greek

Opening its doors in November 2015, Urban Greek brings traditional Greek and Cretan food with a modern slant to Hobart.

The restaurant is a collaboration between childhood friends pastry chef Paulo Zacharioudaki and the Kakkos Family who ran restaurants in Crete before arriving in Hobart.

Open early for coffee and breakfast, and staying open late for dinner, the restaurant specialises in authentic Greek food, relying a lot on family favourites and recipes that have stood the test of time.

A sleek, modern interior design, creates an atmosphere in which traditional street food that would be quite at home in the tavernas of the Greek Isles, sit along side offerings from the charcoal grill, with grilled lamb and octopus always in high demand.

Dishes like Kolokithokeftedes, dolomades and mousaka are also very popular, and when you have a pastry chef involved, you know that the pastries and Greek sweets are going to be good. The combination of all of this means that the Greek community in Hobart have embraced the restaurant as a place to come for family get togethers and celebrations alike.

Urban Greek also offers a wide variety of greek wines and ouzos, so regardless of whether you are looking for the flavours of home, rekindling the memories of a holiday to the Greek Islands, or trying Greek food for the very first time, the experience will be an authentic one.
