Taj Palace Indian Restaurant

Right in the center of North Hobart’s restaurant strip is the Taj Palace Indian Restaurant - a Hobart instituton since 2005. Harry Gauba and his wife Kusum both came from careers in other industries to start this restaurant that has developed a strong following from Indian cuisine connoisseurs around Hobart.

Kusum heads up the team in the kitchen, having taught herself to cook while chasing the flavours that she remembered from her home in the north of India. Harry looks after front of house and their daughter Mishika who is totally at home in the restaurant.

The restaurant boasts a traditional tandoor oven which produces the most sublime naan bread and adds a flavour to the tandoori chicken and other meats cooked in it that is impossible to replicate in any other form of oven. Their curries are packed with flavour, and the spiciness of the dishes can be adjusted to suit your palate without effecting the wonderful flavours and the portions are offered with generosity typical of Indian hospitality. Their takeaway business is highly sought after and their in house dining is reminiscent of a family restaurant in their hometown of Punjab in the North of India.
