I am sure there are many people who have been to Bruny Island on the ferry from Kettering who were totally oblivious to the fact that hidden away in an unassuming shop front, just before the turnoff lies one of Tasmania’s great chocolate adventures.

Nutpatch initially started production with its now famous hazelnut nougat. Developing this nougat was an 18 month undertaking by confectioner John Zito, who perfected the technique using an age old Italian recipe. After many years of wholesale production, he opened the doors of his first retail outlet in November 2011.

For anyone who has tasted this nougat, it is quite obvious this is a unique combination with its wonderful honey flavour and pure natural products. Most importantly, it doesn’t stick to your teeth! The nougat contains roasted Tasmanian hazelnuts harvested from their own orchard just two kilometres from the shop, and the range has now extended to include a roasted almond nougat.

But it is not just the nougat that will tempt you. They also specialise in fine handmade chocolates. With a range of confectionery that keeps growing and growing, the hardest decision is what to try next.

In the last year, the secret of the little shop in Kettering has been revealed to a much wider audience with the opening of a state-of-the-art facility right on the water’s edge in Hobart on the Murray Street Pier. A dazzling array of all things chocolate means whether it be a gift for that special someone or a self-indulgence, just because you deserve it, you are sure to find something to delight.

With passionate people who enjoy inventing new products and creating things to challenge the imagination and taste buds, every visit to the shop, be it in Hobart or at the original shop in Kettering is a new and delightful adventure.
