Maria Island Grand Picnic

See Tasmania is a locally owned business offering a refined new way to experience this unique and historically rich island, only a short ferry ride from Triabunna. Offering small group day tours that combine a healthy mix of eco adventure and gourmet food and wine experiences, guests are able to develop a real connection to east coast Tasmania's nature, discover its rich cultural history and treat themselves to its world class produce.

Known to the puthikwilayti band of aborigines, wukaluwikiwayna/Maria Island is rich in natural and cultural heritage. People from many nations have visited this island that sits just off the Tasmanian mainland. Frequented by the Aborigines, named by the Dutch, explored by the French, transformed by the English, styled by an Italian and farmed by a South African - the human history is only the surface. For those intrigued by geology, flora and fauna, Maria is a wonderland of discovery with towering mountain peaks, dreamy white beaches, bird rich forests and ancient, fossil rich cliffs.

The Maria Island Grand Picnic offers a full day to immerse yourself in history and to relax and take in the beautiful surrounds. With a scenic boat trip, two short walks, world heritage convict sites, freshly baked morning tea, gourmet lunch and afternoon wine, the day is packed but never rushed.

Inspired by the charming entrepreneur Diego Bernacchi, the Grand Picnic is a way of stepping back in time, sharing stories and sitting down to a full lunch spread of Tasmanian produce. With two local guides preparing homemade morning tea and then lunch on the Island, the day guarantees you won’t go hungry. Bernacchi in the past would entertain visitors of note and government officials with lavish lunches, dinners and balls, sharing his produce and passion in hopes to win financial backing in order to grow his early tourism visions of the island. Seeing the value of the island's charm, Diego wished to create a place for all to visit in comfort and style. Today we can do just that. With abundant wildlife, idyllic scenery and historical allure, Maria Island is one special place not to be missed.
