Tarkine Fresh Oysters

Bolduans Bay Oysters Pty Ltd, now commonly known as Tarkine Fresh Oysters, have been in the industry since 1979 and have always had the mission of growing the best possible oysters Tasmania could deliver.

Jon Poke and his wife Annette grew the company from humble beginnings into an award-winning company employing more than 25 permanent employees on an annual basis.

Both their son and daughter work within the business and there is hope the following generation will continue the family’s involvement as well.

Duck Bay where the oysters are grown is an estuarine system that fronts onto Bass Strait, just 10 kilometres from the processing facilities. The oysters are literally processed straight out of the water.

Shucking only small quantities at a time to ensure visitors get the freshest possible oysters, the creamy texture and sweet, white flesh, combined with iodine rich saltiness of the sea makes each mouthful a delight.

Their retail outlet was opened in late 2017 to showcase the fine produce the area has to offer. Priding themselves in delivering the freshest possible oysters to the table, the cafe offers a range of fresh and cooked variations of oyster, plus their secret recipe seafood chowder, naturally featuring their oysters, which has become a signature dish.

The cafe also offers take away options, with shucked and unshucked natural oysters and a variety of topped oysters ready to pop straight into the oven when you get home.

The cafe also stocks a range of cooking and serving trays for oysters, and a selection of oyster knives. Locally made wooden cheeseboards and a range of award winning Ghost Rock Wines from Devonport are available as gifts or a reminder of your travels to this beautiful region. Gift vouchers allow you to spread the love and to introduce your family and friends to the delights of the perfect oyster. With tours of the leases and factory and oyster shucking lessons scheduled for next season, the future is looking bright for this family business.
