tamar valley truffles

Tamar Valley Truffles is Tasmania’s largest privately-owned trufferie, growing world-class Black Perigord truffles.

They are commonly referred to as `black gold’ – the highest quality product purchased by renowned chefs from across Asia and Australia for up to $2500/kilo. Feedback from chefs, including a 3-star Michelin Restaurant, suggests that Tamar Valley Truffles provide a premium product, rivalling the best from Europe.

Tamar Valley Truffles firmly believes that the consistency of its offerings is a result of being based in the beautiful Tamar Valley and the hard work and dedication of an extremely professional and passionate team.

But before gastronomes around the globe can enjoy the earthy and subtle sensation, there is a long production process involving patience and precision. Three thousand deciduous and evergreen oak trees were planted at the family farm located on the beautiful Trevallyn Dam in 2000. It took five years before the first prized delicacy was discovered.

Between June and September each year, highly-trained dogs locate the ripe truffles, which grow in the ground as a result of a symbiotic relationship with the tree roots that have been inoculated with the truffles spores (Tuber Melanosporum).

The truffle has been etched into European folklore as a revered item. Tamar Valley Truffles is proud to raise its profile in Tasmania, through the inception of the inaugural Tasmanian Truffle Festival, which will continue to evolve and expand each year.

Tamar Valley Truffles also looks forward to continuing to grow its relationship with the best chefs from across Tasmania, Australia and around the world.
