rosevears waterfront tavern

Rosevears Waterfront Tavern is situated on the picturesque Tamar River in the heart of the Valley.  This delightful historic tavern provides a unique waterfront dining experience with a mix of old world charm and fine fresh food.

Steeped in history, the Tavern was originally built by William Henry Rosevear back in 1831 on the current site at Cimitiere Point and named the “The Independent”. This was a wooden structure and was first licensed back in 1831. In 1833, William changed its name to “The Half Way House” and again in 1835 to “The Rose Inn”. In 1938 the hotel was completely destroyed by fire and later that year was re built, but this time with clay bricks, in a typical Georgian/Victorian style which is still at the core of the Tavern today.

Recently the historic Waterfront Tavern has undergone a major renovation and extensions in keeping with the traditional tavern atmosphere whilst bringing it back to its former glory.

You can still step back in time and have a beer in the locals bar, enjoying the open fireplace and stunning views. There is plenty of options to choose from with three function rooms, a cosy restaurant to relax in and the new large open air deck, all overlooking the Tamar River.

The tavern has a real focus on fresh local produce with the current owners breeding their own Black Angus at properties in Glengarry and Winkleigh. This beef is aged and placed straight on the menu at the restaurant, which has hearty meals with a modern twist. You can also experience great Tasmanian wines and local ales when you visit the Tavern. Future plans for the site include a vineyard/winery and accommodation.

The unique location provides a scenic journey to the Tavern. Whether you arrive by car, boat or helicopter the Rosevears Waterfront Tavern is the perfect destination for a relaxing meal, a cold drink and warm friendly warm service, all year around.
