Knowing the seasonal workings of their vineyard and making and tasting the fruits of that labour, are all part of the journey undertaken by two families to discover the educated enjoyment of fine wine.

Goaty Hill Wines is a leading boutique family owned and operated vineyard at Kayena in Tasmania’s Tamar Valley. The Goaty Hill family takes great pride in their 20-hectare vineyard and believes excellence in winemaking starts with the vines.

While Goaty Hill Wines will celebrate its eighth commercial vintage in 2013, the actual vineyard in the picturesque West Tamar Region of Tasmania is now 15 years old. In 1998 partners in the venture moved from Victoria to Tasmania to follow their dream of starting a vineyard and ultimately a wine label. They had decided to live their life doing something that offered a challenge in an industry and location they felt passionate about.

It was in 2005, the Goaty Hill Wines partners decided to launch a wine label that encapsulated their passion for quality and enjoyment of fine Tasmanian wine.

Together with their winemaker, they followed their philosophy of allowing the vineyard characteristics to show through into the wines. This minimalist approach to the winemaking process has produced some outstanding indicative cool climate wines with a list of trophies, awards and gold medals flowing from their first vintage.

In considering a name for their label, partners turned to their vineyard for inspiration. A notable landmark on the property is a steep and rocky hill offering panoramic views of the region, locally-known as Goaty Hill.
