twelve acre wood

Twelve Acre Wood began back in 2009 as a lone hand-built beehive in a suburban backyard.

Matthew and Nadine Scrimgeour were both raised on the North West Coast of Tasmania, they lived in Devonport and spent the first few years of their married life turning their small suburban yard into an organic haven.  Despite the limited space they managed to raise chickens, plant ‘no dig’ vegetable gardens and grow an abundance of fruit trees, berries and grapevines.

Producing honey was the next step in the ‘home-grown’ venture after Matthew was motivated and encouraged by several friends and family members. After enjoying the fruits of their labour for several years and receiving consistent positive feedback about the honey, the idea of selling it was considered a possibility in the future. That dream became reality when the family of four (now five!) was offered the opportunity to move to a rural twelve acre property in Melrose at the beginning of 2012.  The fresh air, the rolling hills and the native gum trees which surround them created the perfect backdrop for the home-based business that is now Twelve Acre Wood.

Twelve Acre Wood raw honey hit the shelves of a few local stockists in October 2013 and has very quickly stamped itself as one of the finest raw honeys on the market, impressing even die-hard honey connoisseurs.

The philosophy behind the business is simple – ‘minimal interference’.

Twelve Acre Wood honey is not heated, nor is it filtered or treated in any way. It comes in its raw state and is hand-poured into each glass jar. The vision for the future is to continue on as a home-based, family business, supplying the local community and beyond with top quality honey products and in doing so they hope to showcase Tasmania’s fine landscape.
