ghost rock vineyard

Framed by the fertile patchwork fields of Sassafras to the south, and the pristine white sands of the Port Sorell peninsula to the north, Ghost Rock Vineyard is blessed by the generosity of Mother Nature.

The family-owned business was established in 2001 with the acquisition of its first vineyard on the peninsula – a small north-facing Pinot Noir block planted in 1989, one of the first in the region. From this precious parcel of land grew an award-winning business now spanning three vineyards and some twenty hectares of hand-tended vines.

Whilst Pinot Noir remains the bedrock of the acreage, plantings also now include specific allocations of Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc, all of which are crafted in the winery to produce true expressions of each variety in combination with the land.

As the growth in vineyards came to fruition, so to did the development of a state-of-the-art cellar door and tourist centre, which recently took out top honours at the 2013 Tasmania Tourism Awards. The design and architecture of the cellar door was specifically created to bring the beauty of the outdoors in, whilst also offering visitors a food and wine program befitting a business located in Australia’s food bowl.

As Ghost Rock Vineyard moves into the future, its dedication and commitment to quality will be further enhanced by the construction of a new 100-tonne winery, and the construction of a regional Interpretation Centre. This Interpretation Centre will not only offer visitors unrivalled access into the art and science of winemaking, but will also bring all of the region’s best provincial food under the one roof.
