The Prickly Cactus

A lively yet laidback atmosphere, punchy Mexican flavours and fishbowls of frozen margaritas ensure there’s always a fiesta at The Prickly Cactus, a firm Launceston favourite in the heart of the city.

Sombreros, Mexican pictures and decorations dot the walls, cactus plants line the garden and cheery staff keep the dishes and tequilas flowing.

Whether you’re a slave to spice or a ‘Mexican coward’, the extensive menu has something to suit you, from burritos, enchiladas and sizzling fajitas to more unique options like pescado borados (drunken fish) – grilled fresh Tasmanian fish fillet finished with tomato, onion, oregano, cumin and tequila. Douse the chilli flames with one of those frozen margaritas, or a traditional version made from agave nectar.
